Sports shoes are composed of three main parts: upper, midsole and outsole, of which the midsole is the key part that determines the comfort of shoes.
The midsole technology of brand shoes is mainly divided into two categories: foam material and air cushion, and the combination of these two types of technology provides a diversified wearing experience for brand shoes.
Brand foam technology
According to the lightness and elasticity of foam materials, it is mainly divided into EVA, Phylon, Cushlon, Lunarlon, React and ZoomX.
In 1972, the brand released its first shoe, the Cortez, known as the Forrest Gump shoe, with a traditional EVA material as the midsole.
Phylon is a secondary foaming EVA material that is lighter and more resilient. Phylon material is used in the midsole of the brand Free running shoes, and the hexagonal curved groove outsole is made through a thermal cutting process. This design usually uses a number of 0-10 to indicate "barefoot feeling", and the smaller the number, the greater the curvature of the sole, the closer to the ground.
Cushlon is an upgraded version of Phylon, providing softer, better resilience, very comfortable to wear, becoming the brand's most mainstream foam material.
Lunarlon is a blend of EVA and NBR, which is softer and more flexible, but less supportive, so it is usually wrapped in a slightly harder Phylon or Cushlon material.
In 2017, the brand launched React technology, which solved the problem of Lunarlon, and replaced the raw material with TPE, which is soft, resilient, lightweight and durable. First unveiled in basketball shoes HypeDunk 2017, React is now widely used in brand running shoes, such as Pegasus and Infinity series running shoes.
In order to help marathon runners improve their speed, the brand developed ZoomX material using Pebax®️ plastic in 2018, which is not only light weight, but also has a high energy feedback rate of 85%, which is used in the brand's high-end running shoes. With the exceptional resilience of ZoomX, the brand Vaporfly and Alphafly running shoes quickly became the dominant marathon field.
In 2019, the brand released Joyride midsole technology, which consists of multiple cavities filled with TPE particles, which are compressed to provide a cushion when they contact the ground. Joyride made the midsole of the shoe more interesting and became an innovative attempt by the brand to show its technical strength.
